Meet Dr. Geiger, D.D.S.

Dr. Geiger, a third-generation dentist, joined Southeast Family Dental in 2011 after graduating from Indiana University School of Dentistry and studying with Sarah Hornsby for myofunctional therapy. She has continued to take dental courses to provide the best care for her patients, driven by her love for creating beautiful and healthy smiles.

Becoming a mother of three and pursuing further studies, Dr. Geiger developed a passion for treating childhood airway disorders.  Under the guidance of Dr. Bill Hang and Dr. Simon Wong, Dr. Geiger now offers early childhood orthodontic intervention.

Everyday You Wait Puts Off Your Child's Potential

What early oral problems can develop in a child?

Oral problems can begin with difficulty nursing but may lead to food aversion, speech issues, or sleep troubles such as snoring and bed wetting. Dr. Geiger's goal is to help children optimize their growth and oral posture.  This helps to alleviate chewing, breathing, swallowing and sleep problems and helps them feel their best.

Why is it important for a child to see a dentist and when?

Dr. Geiger believes educating parents starts before a child is born, but children should start dental exams as early as a mom has nursing problems or the child reaches 1 year of age.  This allows us to monitor growth and help guide parents in early habits they can be doing at home.  Early visits also help establish good dental habits and ensure baby teeth, which are crucial for chewing and speech, remain healthy.  At Southeast Family Dental, our team is skilled in making children feel at ease during their visits.  This fosters the development of healthy dental habits that can last a lifetime

Is this covered by insurance?

At Southeast Family Dental, we offer in-house financing to assist with your visit. We are out of network but will run most insurance except state plans.

Specialty Treatment Options

Myofunctional Therapy

Myofunctional therapy for kids is a specialized treatment that focuses on correcting oral and facial muscle function. It aims to address issues such as improper tongue posture, mouth breathing, and misaligned teeth, which can lead to speech difficulties, dental problems, and even sleep apnea.

By teaching children proper oral habits and exercises, myofunctional therapy promotes healthier development of the jaw and facial structure, ultimately improving overall well-being. This therapy is often used in conjunction with orthodontic treatment to enhance results.

Lip Tie / Tongue Tie

A lip tie happens when the tissue connecting the upper lip to the gums is unusually tight, restricting lip movement. A tongue tie occurs when the band of tissue under the tongue is too short or tight, limiting tongue mobility.

Addressing these ties early is essential to avoid future problems with speech, eating, and oral hygiene. Early treatment, such as a frenectomy, can quickly resolve the issue, promoting better feeding habits, proper oral development, and reducing the risk of speech delays or dental issues.

Early Orthodontics

Early orthodontic intervention involves treating dental issues in children aged 4 to 10 while their jaw and teeth are still developing. It helps correct misaligned teeth, bite problems, and jaw growth issues early on.

This approach prevents more severe problems, reducing the need for extractions or surgery later. It also promotes proper oral function, supports balanced facial growth, and makes future treatments shorter and more effective.
